Hi, my name is Cassie, I’m the owner of NC Label. I’m also Mum to 2 beautiful children, Chloe, 4 and Max, 1 and wife to Tony. I’ve always wanted to run my own business and had a love of handbags. After working for 10 years in the Human Resources profession and having just competing my second lot of parental leave, I thought now was the perfect time (if there ever is such a thing) to back myself and start my own business.
If you have been following along at home, you’ll know NC Label is very much in its infancy having only launched in May this year. I’m so grateful to many people who have supported me in making this dream a reality. I never thought it would be easy, but I definitely did under estimate all that is involved in starting a business. One of the most amazing people who has helped me get up and running is Michelle from Little Brown Rabbit Photography. Michelle has taken all the stunning photos of our first NC Tote collection which you see on our website and had given me so much valuable advice along the way.
I was lucky enough to first meet Michelle when she photographed my daughter as a new born 4 years ago. Since then Michelle has taken photos of my extended family and of my son as a new born. What I like best about Michelle’s work is that she creates a relaxed environment which generates stunning natural photos that can be treasured forever.
I thought it fitting that for my first blog post, I ask Michelle to guest blog as I’m sure a lot of you would be interested to learn more about Little Brown Rabbit Photography.
Hi! I’m Michelle and I am a newborn baby, children’s and family photographer at Little Brown Rabbit Photography. I live in sunny Perth, Western Australia with my wonderful husband, Andrew, our three children, our two dogs and our rabbits and a yabby. I love coffee, and watching Game of Thrones, Mitchell and Webb or Brian Cox documentaries on the couch with a glass of wine and my husband. I try to walk wherever I can, I enjoy reading whenever I can. My guilty pleasures are MKR on the TV, Bombay Sapphire gin and eating in bed. I love cooking and the idea of growing my own herbs and vegetables, but I don’t have the necessary green fingers. I don’t enjoy shopping, but I do love a pair of comfy shoes and I love a good quality, versatile bag. I own a black NC Label tote which I love and use daily. We are “accidental” co-sleepers, extended breast feeders and baby-wearers, and my youngest, Eleanor loves coming with me to work when we shoot for Airbnb.
I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and I’ve also lived in England and Scotland in the UK. I trained as a medical scientist with a speciality in haematology and went to university in both South Africa and England before moving to Perth. While I love science in all forms, taking photos of newborn babies, children and families is my passion. Each newborn baby is unique, each family is special. I now do a lot more outdoor portrait photography as you might expect with this weather, but studio work is still a big part of what I do and enjoy. I am lucky enough to have a large studio at my home in Maylands which is fantastic for babies and newborns, children or families (and even pets!)
I have always loved taking pictures and bought my own camera with my pocket money when I was around 10 years old. I’ve also always disliked having my photo taken, so there are very few photos of me in existence. That’s something I’m trying hard to rectify now that I have children. It wasn’t until my eldest two children were born that I started to become interested in photography as an art form. My husband bought me my first dSLR for Christmas in 2009 and I won the top prize in a National Photography competition in the UK in 2010. Since moving to Perth I have won several online children’s portrait competitions. I am a stock photography contributor for Getty Images and Austock Photo where my beloved late-fur baby, Bruno is a big star!
My photography business was born when as a young family, we had an experience in a large chain of photography studios. We couldn’t afford to buy any images, but emotionally, I couldn’t NOT have them. The image we bought still hangs in our home, and it serves as a reminder of Little Brown Rabbit Photography’s “mission statement”. I am priced affordably, not because I’m not good at what I do, or that I can’t charge more. But because I think photography is so important, and that I want all my clients to afford to have ALL their images printed after their shoot with me, not look at the wall with a sinking feeling at how much they spent on that one piece. I also want every single one of my clients to return for updated photos! I honestly have the BEST clients, and when you come to my studio or meet me at a location for your family’s photo shoot, I treat you as an old and dear friend.
I love creating heart-inspired photo art of our family for our home, and I’d like to do the same for you. Please take a look at my portfolio at www.littlebrownrabbit.com and if you like what you see, contact me for a chat (I make a fantastic cup of coffee too!). Or email me for a photo session. Let’s make pictures!
My photo sessions are relaxed and friendly, and you are welcome to bring your own props and ideas. Each shoot is different, and I style your shoot with your preferences in mind. Shoot times are flexible to suit you and I am all about fantastic customer service. Reach out to me and I’ll get straight back to you.
Can’t wait to meet you!
